Nolina texana (Texas Beargrass)

Also known as Texas Sacahuista. 

Texas Beargrass is not a true grass, but a clumping, stemless member of the lily family. It is evergreen and slow-growing, but hardy and low maintenance. It produces one or several flowering stems in the spring or summer. The flowers are creamy white. Texas Beargrass has a weeping habit and looks great weeping over a wall, slope, or hillside. It provides an excellent evergreen accent that works well with almost any other plant.  

Texas Beargrass requires good drainage. It can be planted in full sun or part shade. Native Americans used the leaves or the fibers from the leaves for weaving baskets and mats.
