Texas Kidneywood is an open, thornless shrub with fragrant white flowers that bees and butterflies love. Its lacey leaves have a citrus scent when crushed. In the fall it produces small brown pods, similar in appearance to those of fragrant mimosa. It blooms on and off from summer to fall; often blooms are triggered by rain.
Texas Kidneywood grows best in full sun to light shade and is drought tolerant once established. It will grow faster with more moisture but requires well-draining soil. It is a host plant for the Southern Dogface butterfly.
