Penstemon baccharifolius (Rock Penstemon)
$ 4.68
Rock Penstemon is a tough perennial with cherry-red tubular blooms that attract hummingbirds. It is very drought tolerant once established and needs well- drained dry soils. Moist, fertile soil will make it short-lived. It does very well in rock gardens, dry creek beds, raised gardens or berms. Once established, it only needs to be watered periodically in extreme drought. It it is a perfect fit for a hot, sunny spot and performs well as a border plant or in rock gardens.
Rock Penstemon dies to the ground in the winter but comes back in the spring. If winter is particularly mild and it does not die to the ground, it will benefit from trimming it in early spring to encourage more vigorous growth.
